After a previous bad experience with another Time and Attendance provider, Intercast & Forge move forward with Mitrefinch TMS
Sector: Manufacturing
Employees: 100+
Product Installed: TMS (Time and Attendance software)
Client Objectives: Calculate hours worked over a variety of shifts more efficiently, reduce costs, improve supervisor's accountability for employee time-keeping
Established in 1854, Intercast & Forge is one of Australia’s largest iron casting foundries, specialising in customer specific solutions for manufacturing cast or forged parts. They supply an impressive 40 per cent of the Australian market for high quality cast iron components.
Prior to implementing Mitrefinch TMS, the company had attempted to run a different time and attendance system at their Adelaide site but were extremely displeased with the results.
Victor Ivec, Group IS Manager explains, “At Intercast & Forge we have a very complex environment and currently have in excess 80 working shift patterns. We were told we could never have an automated time-keeping system.”
Intercast & Forge selected Mitrefinch's TMS time and attendance solution to replace their existing manual time-sheeting process in 2003.
Mitrefinch TMS now captures and calculates hours worked and overtime accrued. This data is all seamlessly integrated into their payroll system, Sage MicrOpay, providing increased efficiency and improved data integrity.
The system covers all employees across their two manufacturing sites, in Sydney and Adelaide, who register their attendance by clocking in and out via Mitrefinch's clocking terminal using proximity cards.
A key issue that Intercast & Forge wanted to solve was the accountability of their employees’ time-keeping. With Mitrefinch TMS system in place, management now have total control of their employees’ worked hours, allowing them to reflect on cost implications when transferring staff from one department to another.
Victor admits that, “Some major cultural changes had to occur as supervisors weren’t really accountable for their people’s time, but now with the Mitrefinch TMS system in place, they are fully accountable for their employees’ time-keeping”.
Allan Murdoch, Business Development Manager, Mitrefinch Australia, adds, “Intercast & Forge needed flexibility due to the number of shift patterns being worked and some complex award interpretations”.
“They also needed an experienced implementer to manage the change process and deliver a desktop application that their supervisors, many of whom were not conversant with computerised systems, would find easy to use.”
Victor advises that they selected Mitrefinch TMS as, “Mitrefinch appeared to have the skills to support the product and we were confident that they would be able to cope with our complex work environment”.
Victor has also been impressed with the Mitrefinch implementation plan, “We went through a short testing period and went live with no problems whatsoever. The whole project took only eight weeks from start to finish.”
